Brand Identity

The visual and verbal elements — including logo, colour palette, typography, tone of voice, and messaging — that make a company’s communications consistent and recognizable across all investor and stakeholder touchpoints.

Buy-Side Analyst

An analyst employed by a buy-side firm (asset manager, hedge fund, or pension fund) who conducts investment research to support internal portfolio decisions. Unlike sell-side analysts, buy-side analysts do not publish research publicly. Building relationships with buy-side analysts is a key objective of institutional investor targeting.

Buy-Side (Institutional Asset Manager)

Professional investment organizations — including mutual funds, pension funds, hedge funds, and endowments — that manage capital on behalf of clients or beneficiaries. Buy-side firms are primary targets for IR outreach and own the shares that determine a company’s shareholder base.

C-Suite

The collective term for a company’s most senior executive leadership — including the CEO, CFO, COO, CLO, and other chief-level officers. C-suite executives are the primary spokespeople in investor relations, responsible for communicating strategy and performance to the market.

Capital Markets

The ecosystem of exchanges, investors, banks, and intermediaries where companies raise long-term capital (through equity or debt) and investors buy and sell securities. For public companies, capital markets activity directly affects share price, cost of capital, and ability to finance growth.

Capital Raise / Financing

The process of raising funds through equity offerings, debt issuances, convertible instruments, or structured financings. IR plays a supporting role by ensuring the investment case is clearly communicated to prospective investors ahead of and during a capital raise.

CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)

A globally recognized professional credential awarded by the CFA Institute to investment analysts and portfolio managers who pass three levels of examination in investment analysis, portfolio management, and ethics. Many sell-side and buy-side analysts hold the CFA designation.

Chairman

The presiding officer of a company’s board of directors. The Chairman leads board meetings, sets the board agenda, and facilitates effective governance. In many governance frameworks, the Chairman and CEO roles are held by separate individuals to maintain board independence.

Consensus (Analyst Consensus)

The aggregate of sell-side analysts’ financial forecasts — including revenue, EPS, and EBITDA estimates — for a company. Consensus figures set market expectations against which reported results are measured. IR teams monitor consensus closely to manage earnings surprises and guide analyst models.

Content & Design

The creation of written and visual assets — including investor presentations, fact sheets, annual reports, website content, and event materials — that communicate a company’s story, strategy, and financial performance to investors and stakeholders.
