Earnings Miss

A situation in which a company’s reported financial results fall short of analyst consensus expectations. An earnings miss can trigger a sharp negative share price reaction. IR teams prepare crisis communications protocols and rapid investor outreach in anticipation of potential misses.

Earnings Period

The recurring window — typically following the close of each fiscal quarter — during which public companies report financial results, hold earnings calls, and engage in heightened investor communications activity. The earnings period is the most intensive recurring event in an IR calendar.

Earnings Release

The formal document — typically a press release distributed via newswire — through which a public company announces its financial results for a reporting period. The earnings release includes the financial statements, MD&A highlights, and forward-looking guidance.

EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation & Amortization)

A widely used financial metric that approximates a company’s operating cash earnings by removing the effects of financing, tax structures, and non-cash accounting charges. EBITDA is commonly used in valuation (EV/EBITDA multiples), credit analysis, and investor presentations.

EBR (Euronext Brussels)

A major European stock exchange and trading venue where public companies list their shares. Euronext Brussels serves European issuers.

EDGAR (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval)

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s online filing system, through which public companies submit required disclosures including 10-K annual reports, 10-Q quarterly reports, 8-K current reports, proxy statements, and insider trading forms. EDGAR is freely accessible to the public.

Email Marketing

The use of email communications to inform and engage investor and stakeholder audiences. For IR, email marketing may include earnings alerts, investor newsletter distributions, event invitations, and targeted outreach to institutional contacts.

Email Nurture Campaign

A planned sequence of emails designed to progressively build awareness, trust, and engagement with a target audience over time. In IR, email nurture campaigns may be used to move prospective institutional investors from initial awareness through to a meeting request.

Equity Plan Advisory

Consulting services that advise public companies on the design, structure, and governance of equity-based compensation programs — including shareholder approval strategies, plan amendments, and communication of plan rationale to institutional investors and proxy advisors.

Equity Plans

Compensation programs that grant employees — typically executives and directors — equity-based awards such as stock options, restricted share units (RSUs), or performance share units (PSUs). Equity plans align management incentives with shareholder interests and are subject to shareholder approval at the AGM.
